A Healthy Start to Your Day: Lifestyle

I know, you don’t have time for breakfast at home, especially a cooked cereal breakfast. Actually you do! I know you do because I have found the time for this breakfast, and changed a 10 year habit of grabbing something on the way to work.

Over a year ago we introduced this breakfast to a friend who always had a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast. He loved it so much, he began eating it almost every day – and in the course of a year he lost 20lbs! This is not dieting! This is eating healthy enjoyable food and our friend says he feels better than ever.

This magical breakfast has as its basis either Red River Cereal or Oatmeal. When you make this breakfast with Oatmeal, be sure to use the old fashioned large flakes that require extra cooking. If you use the quick oatmeal you are not getting the same nutritional benefit.

The key is to prepare the recipe in bulk in the evening. A good time is while you are preparing dinner or cleaning up after dinner. That way it takes almost no time to prepare.

Guarantee
I guarantee you will have the pleasure of a few minutes of sanity to start the day, you will arrive at work ready to go, you won’t feel the need for a mid morning snack and you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you did something healthy for yourself that day.

Ingredients for 4 servings (Adjust accordingly if you have a bigger pot!)

Red River Version
1 Cup Red River Cereal
4 Cups Water

Oatmeal Version
1 1/3 Cup Oatmeal
3 ¼ Cup Water

2 Heaping Tablespoons Ground Flax Seed (also called Flax Meal)
2 Level Tablespoons Oat Bran
2-3 Heaping Tablespoons Raisins (to suit your taste)
2 Heaping Tablespoons Chopped Walnuts (or almonds, cashews etc.)

You can also add ½ a chopped apple

Evening Cooking Directions
Put all the ingredients together in your pot (don’t forget the water!)
Bring to a boil
Turn to low
Stir frequently
Cook uncovered about 10 to 15 minutes for the oatmeal and 15 to 20 minutes for the red river version.

Morning Cooking Directions
Heat in the microwave
Eat along with some fresh fruit and/or fruit juice. Another idea is to top the cereal with banana slices. Milk on top is strictly optional.
